El propósito de este artículo es llevar a cabo un acercamiento a la naturaleza del mecanicismo de Robert Boyle para, de esa manera, poder apreciar cómo a esta tesis o modelo de explicación, i. e.: el mecanicismo, fundamental para los filósofos del siglo XVII, se antepusieron diferencias importantes entre sus defensores. En otras palabras, la hipótesis que se sugiere en este trabajo es que el mecanicismo fue, por un lado, una forma eficiente de confrontar al aristotelismo y de acercarse al mundo natural y, por otro, que en cada autor de este periodo podemos hallar variaciones de lo que cada filósofo naturalista consideraba mecanicismo. En Boyle pueden encontrarse características que definen su mecanicismo y, por tanto, su filosofía natural, algunas de las cuales comparte a su vez con otros filósofos de la naturaleza que le son contemporáneos y no otros, ya que en la filosofía natural de cada uno de estos autores podemos encontrar una forma distintiva de tratar el escepticismo pirrónico, lo que resultaría en una epistemología específica y, por consiguiente, tanto la filosofía natural como la epistemología estarían ligadas a cierta perspectiva teológica. Dicho en forma sucinta, las distintas combinaciones de las bien diferenciadas posturas epistémicas así como teológicas dieron como resultado una filosofía natural específica. En otras palabras, en este trabajo se intenta ilustrar todo esto al exponer algunos de los elementos epistémicos y teológicos que componen la filosofía natural de Robert Boyle y por tanto aproximarse a la naturaleza de su mecanicismo. //// The purpose of this article is to approach to the nature of Robert Boyle´s mechanicism and in this way be able to appreciate how this thesisor explanatory model, i.e. the mechanicism, which was fundamental for the philosophers of the XVII century, had important differences among its defenders. In other words, the hypothesis I want to suggest in this work is that mechanicism was, on the one hand, an efficient form to confront aristotelism and to approach to the natural world and, on the other, that in each author of that period we find variations of what each natural philosopher considered mechanicism. It appears to me that in Boyle we can find the following features that define his mechanicism and therefore his natural philosophy; and that he shares some of them with other contemporary philosophers of nature and not others, since in the natural philosophy of each of the authors we can find a distinct form of dealing with the pirronic skepticism, which will result in a specific epistemology and, therefore, both natural philosophy and epistemology were linked in a given theological perspective. In short, that the different combinations of the distinct epistemic as well as theological postures resulted in a specific natural philosophy. In other words, in this work I intend to illustrate all this by exposing some of the epistemic and theological elements that compose the natural philosophy of Robert Boyle and, therefore, approach to the nature of his mechanicism.
